Week 3

This was a short, but extremely busy week in our TechnoScribes classroom. Students selected and revised their poems and recorded their voices in GarageBand. Photos and music were added and their final two Podcasts were shared and posted to our website.

During the latter part of the week, we focused on getting our environmental PSAs started. Mr. Robert Harris of the Sierra Club stopped by and shared a presentation on the environmental issues that affect us here in Hawaii, as well as a few resources that could be checked out when brainstorming and drafting our PSAs. Students selected their partners and topics and began the process of researching information and resources hat could help them with their projects. Students are encouraged to look for further resources at the public libraries or online.

Week 2

This week we put the final touches on our MeMercials and shared them in class.

We also started our newest projects on Nature Poetry. We discussed the use of descriptive words and phrases, personification, similes, and metaphors in poetic writing. The students went to the Lily Pond for inspiration, took photos, and wrote haiku. To celebrate the beauty of Mother Earth, students found pictures and wrote poetry that attempted to capture the scenery and mood of various landscapes and living things. We are currently working on turning those poems and images into a GarageBand Podcast.

Finally, we listened to two guest speakers this week. Ms. Jenna Ishii showed us a PSA on "The Navigators of the Future," and spoke to us about the elements and techniques of composing an effective public service announcement. Mr. Gary Gill of Blue Planet Foundation spoke to us about energy use and the impact on global warming, as well as alternative energy options and energy conservation. The information learned from the presenters will assist us in our own sustainability pubic service announcements that we will begin next week.

Week 1 in TechnoScribes 3-4

This week, it was all about getting to know each other. The TechnoScribers became familiar with their classroom, teachers and their fellow classmates. To learn each other's names and some background information, we played a game called "Human Hunt." Later, students brainstormed and shared ideas and images that represented their interests, talents, and personality. They then worked on a storyboard to draft the "story of themselves."

The TechnoScribers also became familiar with the computer. Students learned how to log in to their student accounts and the Punahou Network. They took photos of themselves using the iSight camera and Photo Booth, and found images on the Web and imported to them their iPhoto Library. All of this laid the foundation for the creation of their first multi-media project, the Me-Mercial, which they worked on using iMovie.

It has been a busy week for us and we look forward to sharing our finished projects on our class website!
